A new 6,000 sq ft Eurospar has opened in Dromore, County Down, creating 40 jobs. The £2.6m investment was part supported by Danske Bank.
Moundview Eurospar is three times larger than the previous Eurospar store on the Hillsborough Road site and now features a deli and butchery counter, forecourt and 24 hour pay at pump facilities.
Chris McDonald, Owner of Moundview Service Station, said: “Having started working in the retail sector when I was 16, I’ve learnt the importance of good customer care. Our business has expanded into more than just a convenience store, with our customers now wanting a complete shopping experience, delivered by the Eurospar brand. The retail sector has changed in the last few years, with customers preferring to do several small shops throughout the week.”
An extensive build project was undertaken to create the new store, which involved the construction of a new multi-storey complex, major landscaping and the installation of fuel tanks.
Chris added: “We demolished our old store and converted the space into additional car parking. We opened under the Eurospar brand as The Henderson Group’s range of products and same day delivery means we can fulfil the needs of our customers. The new store has a butcher’s counter, salad bar and Barista Bar coffee station and offers a wide variety of locally sourced products, available through Henderson’s enjoy local and The Kitchen ranges. The store is very much a family business. My wife Clare played an instrumental role throughout the build project and my five children are all employees.
“We opened at the start of June and the response from customers so far has been overwhelming. Customers have told me they don’t feel the need to go outside of Dromore for groceries as they have everything they need under one roof.”
Carol McCready, Business Manager at Danske Bank, commented: “This investment is great news for the local area with new job opportunities and a modern retail complex that caters for local residents’ needs. The larger store is a sign of confidence in the town by the owner and is an important part of the local community.
“We are delighted to have worked closely with Chris on this major project.”
