Other things you need to know

  • When you turn 18 we will change your Danske Discovery current account to a Danske Freedom current account. You don’t need to do anything, you keep the same account number, and any regular payments such as direct debits or standing orders will stay in place.
  • There are age controls on some services.
    • Our Mobile Banking app, smart phone and smart watch apps are available to customers aged 13 or over. You may need your parent’s or guardian’s permission.
    • If you are under 16, you’ll need your parent's or guardian's permission to:
      • register for eBanking; and
      • use your Debit Mastercard to make payments.

Ready to open a Danske Discovery account?

To apply for this account:

  • If you are a new Danske Bank customer, you must be living in Northern Ireland
  • If you are already a Danske Bank customer, you must be living in the UK
  • Your parent or guardian can open an account for you online or by phone
  • You can open an account in any branch.
    • 11-15 year olds - A parent or guardian will need to come with you when you open your account.

      You’ll need to bring:
      Proof of identity
      Proof of your parent/guardian’s identity and address

    • 16-17 year olds – You don’t need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, though you can be, when you open your account.

      You’ll need to bring:
      Proof of identity
      Proof of address (such as a letter from your school or college) or any of the examples provided on our Become a Customer webpage
