We’re proud to have been named a Which? Recommended Provider for current accounts.
For parents and legal guardians...
eBanking is available from age 11, with parent / guardian consent required for customers under 16.
Our Mobile Banking app and wearable device apps are designed for customers aged 13 or over.
For children under 16, a parent/guardian must consent to the debit card being used in shops and online. A spending limit can be placed on these payments.
This account has no overdraft.
The account is opened in the name of the child.
• for children aged 8 - 10, the parent/guardian is automatically given access to the account until the child turns 16.
• for children aged 11 and over, the parent / guardian does not automatically have access, unless granted after the account is opened. The easiest way to do this is for you and the child to visit a branch.
Arranged or unarranged overdrafts aren't available on this account, so it's important that the account holder has enough in the account before trying to spend money from it.
When you turn 18, we will change the account to a Danske Freedom current account. You won't need to do anything, and your account number and regular payments will stay the same.
Build good money habits
Pair the Danske Discovery current account with a savings account to get instant access savings for children aged 8 - 17.
A parent or legal guardian can apply online for an account on behalf of their child. The account will be in the child’s name.
If your child is aged 11 - 17, we automatically set them up with eBanking, and if you give us your child’s email address, paperless statements. If you do not want your child to have eBanking, you can apply by phone or in branch instead.
You'll need to upload your child's ID document (and, if required, proof you're the legal guardian).
Please provide one of the following for your child:
Birth Certificate
Adoption Certificate
Valid Passport
Valid Full or Provisional UK Driving Licence
Valid Full ROI or EU Driving Licence
You’ll need to have copies of these saved to your device ready to upload or have the originals to hand to take a picture of, before you apply online.
We will try and confirm your identify electronically. If we cannot, we will contact you for proof.
Upload your child’s identity document (and if applicable, proof of legal guardianship), on the Discovery Upload page.
If you want to open an account by phone, your parent or guardian will have to do this for you. To find out more or to make an appointment please phone us on:
