We’re proud to have been named a Which? Recommended Provider for current accounts.

For parents and legal guardians...

  • Our Mobile Banking app, some smart phone and smart watch apps are available to customers aged 13 or over. Account holders might need parent or guardian permission.
  • For children under 16, a parent's or guardian's permission is needed to:
    • register for eBanking; and
    • use the Debit Mastercard to make payments in store and online. A spending limit can also be placed on these payments.
  • This account has no overdraft.
  • The account is opened in the name of the child and the parent/guardian does not automatically have access, unless granted after the account is opened. The easiest way to do this is for you and the child to visit a branch.
  • Arranged or unarranged overdrafts aren't available on this account, so it's important that the account holder has enough in the account before trying to spend money from it.

When you turn 18, we will change the account to a Danske Freedom current account. You won't need to do anything, and your account number and regular payments will stay the same.

Things you need to know

Ready to open a Danske Discovery account?

Apply online - Parents and legal guardians

A parent or legal guardian can apply online for an account on behalf of their child. The account will be in the child’s name.

When you apply online, your child will be automatically set up for eBanking and paperless statements so you will need to supply your child’s email address. If you do not want your child to have eBanking or they don’t have an email address, you can apply by phone or in branch instead.

You'll need to upload your child's ID document (and, if required, proof you're the legal guardian).

Accepted forms of ID for your child are:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Adoption Certificate
  • Valid Passport
  • Valid Full or Provisional UK Driving Licence
  • Valid Full ROI or EU Driving Licence

You will need to have copies of these saved on your phone or computer, ready to upload before you apply online.

We’ll try to confirm your identity and address electronically at the end of the application. If we can’t, we’ll contact you for proof.

Apply in branch

11 to 15 year olds

You can open an account in any branch. A parent or guardian will need to come with you when you open your account and you’ll need to bring:

  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of your parent/guardian’s identity and address.

If someone other than a parent or guardian (for example, a grandparent or social worker) will be opening your account with you, they will need to visit one of our branches to complete the application and provide proof of their identity and address.


16 to 17 year olds

You can open an account in any branch. You don’t need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You’ll need to bring:

  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of address (such as a letter from your school or college) or any of the examples provided on our Become a Customer page.
