Discovery Current Account 8 - 10 Application Form

Before proceeding with the Danske Discovery Current account application for 8-10 year olds, please review the 3 sections below:

    Keeping the balance above zero

    Arranged and unarranged overdrafts aren't available on our Danske Discovery Current account, so it's important that the account holder has enough in the account before trying to spend money from it.

  • As part of the application you will need to provide a document to confirm your child's identity. Have clear photos or scanned copies saved on your device so you can easily upload them as part of the application process, or on our dedicated Discovery upload page later.

    Please provide one of the following for your child:

    • Birth Certificate
    • Adoption Certificate
    • Valid Passport

    If you are a Legal Guardian, you will also need to provide proof of this alongside your child’s identity document.

    When we receive your application, we will try to confirm your identity electronically. If this is not possible, we will contact you to request additional proof.

    Please ensure all documents are ready before you start your application. This will help you complete the process quickly and easily.

  • To apply for a Danske Discovery account for your 8-10 child please follow the simple steps below:

    1. Scan or take a picture of the child's identity document and, if applicable, proof you are the legal guardian. Save these to your device for use later.
    2. Complete the online application below.

    3. At the end of the application, upload your child’s identity document, and if required, proof of Legal Guardianship. (Don’t have these to hand? You can submit them on our Discovery Upload page later. However, we will not process the application unless we have all documentation).
    4. We will process the application and be in touch within 2 business days.

Documents required

As part of the application you will need to provide a document to confirm your child's identity. Have clear photos or scanned copies saved on your device so you can easily upload them as part of the application process, or on our dedicated Discovery upload page later.

For your child, we can accept:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Adoption Certificate
  • Valid Passport
  • Valid Full or Provisional UK Driving Licence
  • Valid Full ROI or EU Driving Licence

If you are a Legal Guardian, you will also need to provide proof of this alongside your child’s identify document.

When we receive your application, we will try to confirm your identity electronically. If this is not possible, we will contact you to request additional proof.

Steps for applying

  • Step 2: Complete the online application below.
  • Step 3: At the end of the application, upload your child’s identify document, and if required, proof of Legal Guardianship. (Don’t have these to hand? You can submit them on our Discovery Upload page later. However, we will not process the application unless we have all documentation).
  • Step 4: We will process the application and be in touch within 2 business days.

Step Two - Introduce us to the Child

Step Three - Additional Information

These questions help us know how you expect to use the account and spot unusual activity. Your answers don't have to be exact.

When we receive the application and documentation proofs, we will send you a form requesting additional information.

Step Four - Let's build the account


Debit Mastercard

The child will get a Debit Mastercard that they can use to withdraw up to £100 at any cash machine. This limit can be changed at any time by contacting us.

You can also set the child's card up so that it can be used in shops, online or over the phone. The daily spending limit will be set at £100 and the limit can be changed at any time by contacting us. Contactless payments of up to £100 can be made wherever the contactless symbol is displayed.


Mandate

As your child is aged 8 - 10, we will add a mandate on the Discovery Current account automatically so you can help them manage their account.

You can see what's happening and make transactions online, by phone or in branch. The mandate will end automatically once they turn 16. We will arrange eBanking for you if you are not already set up.


eBanking

eBanking is available to customers aged 11 or over. As you will be given a mandate on your child's Danske Discovery Current account, we'll arrange eBanking for you if you are not already set up. This allows you to securely access your child's account online, helping you support them as they learn to manage their money.

eBanking allows you to:

  • check the balance on the account(s)
  • make payments out of the account(s)
  • support your child as they learn to manage their money

You will also be able to use your eBanking log on details to access the account using the services of Third Party Providers (TPPS). You can read more about TPPs in General Terms & Conditions - Personal (PDF) and on our Open Banking page.

When you first log on, you will be asked to accept the Terms & Conditions for eBanking (PDF).


Statements

We will post your child's statements to them at their home address.

When they turn 11, if they decide to take eBanking and they give us their email address, we can send your child their statements and other documents digitally to their electronic mailbox.

Please contact us when your child reaches 11 if you wish them to register for eBanking.


Junior Savings

To help build good money habits through saving in their own account, you have the option to pair the Danske Discovery Current account with a Junior Savings account. This account will also be in your child's own name. You can find out more about our Junior Savings Account

We will not automatically add a mandate for you on this account however, if one is required, your child can request one after the account is opened.

Step Five - Customer Agreement and Document Upload


You have chosen to open a Danske Discovery Current account for your child.

I acknowledge that my application for a Danske Discovery Current account for my child will include a Contactless Debit Mastercard.

I acknowledge that my child will receive paper statements, I will have a mandate on the account, and you will register me for eBanking if not already set up.

I have read the Terms & Conditions (PDF) and FSCS information (PDF) for the account. I have explained these to my child, including their responsibilities and how to keep their account safe.


Junior Savings account

I understand that a Junior Savings account will be opened for my child in their sole name.

Don't have these to hand? You can still submit the application and upload the relevant documents later at our dedicated Discovery Upload page. However, we will not process your application until we receive the relevant proofs.
