Bereavement Notification Form

Use this form to tell us that someone who banked with us has died and who to contact. Anyone can let us know when someone dies.

Before you start, please have:

  • The details of the person who has died and the accounts they held with us, if known
  • Your personal details
  • A copy of the death certificate if available; you can provide it later if needed

About the Deceased Customer

If you have a copy to hand, please upload the death certificate or the coroner's certificate when prompted later in the application.

We understand this may be a difficult time. You can proceed without the death certificate or coroner's certificate for now, but it will be required later. Once you have it, please provide it using one of the following ways:

About You

About the Estate

The personal representative is the person responsible for managing the affairs of the person who has died, such as their money and property. If there is a Will, this person will be called the executor. If there is no Will, the personal representative will usually be an administrator or the closest Next of Kin.

If you have a copy to hand, you'll be able to upload it later in the application when prompted. It may be required as part of the process, but don't worry if you don't have it to hand right now. You can still proceed and provide it at a later stage if required.

If there is no Will. The estate will be handled according to the rules of intestacy. The closest next of kin needs to get in touch with us to discuss our late customer's estate. They will be responsible for helping manage the estate:

The order of relatives for next of kin:

  1. Spouse or civil partner
  2. Children
  3. Grandchildren
  4. Parents
  5. Brothers and sisters
  6. Aunts and uncles
  7. Cousins




Under £300 - It may be possible to close the deceased's accounts at a branch if you are their legal next of kin. We will confirm this when we contact you.

Under £1,000 - It may be possible to close the deceased's accounts at a branch if you are their Spouse or Civil Partner. We will confirm this when we contact you.

Under £50,000 - It may be possible to close the deceased's accounts under a Small Estates Indemnity in branch. We will confirm this when we contact you.

To close accounts with a balance over £50,000, we will need a Grant of Representation. This is the legal document that confirms who can deal with a deceased person's estate.

If there is a Will, this will be a Grant of Probate.

If there is no Will, it will be Letters of Administration.

If the funeral invoice has not yet been paid, we may be able to release available funds from the account to help cover this cost.
